NEWPORT — The Newport Grizzlies softball team got solid, five-inning wins against Reardan at home Friday, April 25. Newport won the first game of a doubleheader 13-0 and the second 27-5.
Lilli Hall pitched a good game, striking out 10 batters. She also had a good day at bat, with two hits, including a double. Five other Newport batters hit doubles including Flavi Stutzman, Abby Martin, Bella Boyd, Alyssa Dibble and Stormie Tucker.
In the second game, Newport batters stayed active, getting 19 hits in the game, helped by aggressive base running and 11 errors by Reardan. Hall pitched the second game, too. On offense, she hit a triple and a double. Makayla Peone went five for five at bat, with three doubles. Boyd hit two doubles, as did Ella Monk.
Newport (8-4, 11-5) is in second place in the Northeast 2B North League, behind Northwest Christian (12-0, 14-2) and ahead of Kettle Falls (7-5, 9-8).
The Grizzlies are heading towards the end of the season, with a Tuesday, April 29 game at Chewelah. Newport is back at home Friday, May 2 for a doubleheader with Chewelah that starts at 2 p.m.
