Poker Paddlers prepped their boats and sailed off down the Pend Oreille River Saturday morning, starting at Usk. The paddlers stopped at nine different places on the river to throw darts for poker hands during the two-day event. They stopped at Blueslide or The Outpost to camp over night and continued on their way Sunday morning, ending the ride in Ione.

Fire on Idaho Hill guts home

OLDTOWN – A house fire of undetermined cause burned the inside an Idaho Hill residence Thursday morning, July 17, but firefighting crews saved the structure from collapsing.
Lead firefighter Tom Watson, a volunteer from Newport Fire Department, was in charge of the estimated 20 firefighters who responded from West Pend Oreille Fire District and Newport Fire Department. At about 9 a.m., crews arrived on the scene where fire inside the building had just begun to show outside. [more]

OLYMPIA – U.S. District Court Judge Donald Molloy granted a preliminary injunction Friday, placing gray wolves in the Northern Rockies region back under federal protection until a court case challenging the removal from the endangered species list is decided. Several conservation groups filed the lawsuit when gray wolves were federally de-listed in April. [more]
