Truck catches fire in Newport

NEWPORT – A pickup truck was on fire at Warren Street and West Larch Street about 5:45 a.m. in Newport Wednesday, Jan. 8.

South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue Chief Shane Stocking said the truck owner said he started it to let it warm up and came back out to the fire. Photographer Don Hatcher said he heard what he took to be tires exploding. Nobody was hurt in the fire, which only involved the truck, Stocking said.
