BRIEFLY

NEWPORT — The big story of March was the unusually mild weather on March 25 and 26, which followed some measurable snow just a couple of days earlier, according to local weather watcher Bob Lutz, who runs the Climate Hawk Northwest at www. climatehawk.org.

Newport had a high of 68 degrees, with a low of 34 on March 26. March 15 there had been 3.3 inches of snow.

March 26 was the highest temperature of the month at 68 degrees and March 7 the lowest temperature at 21 degrees.

“Overall, both temperatures and precipitation came in near normal, and even snowfall was near normal for a change,” Lutz wrote.
