Election filing begins May 5

NEWPORT – Locally in Washington state, city councils, school boards, hospital and port districts as well as fire and sewer districts all have positions up for election this year, with Primary Elections set for August.

The candidate filing period begins Monday, May 5, and ends Friday, May 9. Mail-in declarations are accepted beginning April 21. To run for office, candidates must complete and file a Declaration of Candidacy, meet the qualifications for the office at the time of filing, and be registered to vote in the district, according to the Pend Oreille County Auditor’s Office.
