Name a grave, win a prize
NEWPORT — River Valley Lifestyle, a Newport nonprofit organization, is finalizing its second project with the Pend Oreille County Museum.
Currently, the members are in the final stages of completing a Boot Hill Cemetery at the museum and are inviting the community to participate in naming three grave markers. The goal is to find fun and whimsical names that can be used on headstones. For example, Wendell Ottery or Noah S. Cape.
There will be three cash awards: first prize, $100, second prize, $50, and third prize, $25. Each winner will also receive two admission tickets to the museum on a day of their choosing.
To participate, entry forms will be available at Owen’s Grocery and Deli, the Newport Miner office and the Newport Library from April 16 to May 21 at noon. Submit an entry at the Miner and get 10% off a new subscription or a renewal. Winners will be notified on May 23, which coincides with the opening of the museum.
