Illegal to feed wildlife

OLYMPIA – Under a new rule approved by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Director in March, it is illegal to feed deer, elk, or moose. Feeding any kind of wildlife will attract those species, WDFW said in a news release.

The new ban on wildlife feeding is an effort to prevent the spread of chronic wasting disease, an extremely contagious disease that spreads through feces, saliva, urine, or through contaminated environments. Drawing elk, deer and moose together to feed can accelerate its spread. There has been one case of CWD in Pend Oreille County and five in Spokane County.

Spay/neuter clinic May 4

NEWPORT – Pawsitive Outreach Spay/Neuter Advocates is holding a spay/neuter clinic for low-income pet owners Sunday, May 4. It’s spring at last, which means kitten season is on the horizon. This is a cat only clinic. The cost of either a spay or neuter for cats is $50. Vaccinations for rabies and the 3-way, upper respiratory and distemper shots are $15 each.

Pawsitive Outreach will work with individuals on payment and may have some financial help available. Cat owners must RSVP for the event by calling 509-671-1427.
