Newport baseball riding 10-game winning streak

NEWPORT — The Newport Grizzlies got their ninth and 10th consecutive wins against the Reardan Screaming Eagles Friday, April 25 at Newport.

The Grizzlies won the first game 9-5 and the second 7-2.

Newport (10-2, 13-2) is second in the Northeast 2B North League, behind Chewelah (10-1, 13-1). Newport lost twice to third place Northwest Christian (8-4, 12-5). Chewelah lost to Kettle Falls (3-8, 5-10). Both Newport and Chewelah lost in March and are undefeated so far in April.

Chewelah and Newport played a doubleheader Tuesday, April 29 at Chewelah and will meet again Saturday, May 3 at Newport. The Saturday starts at 11 a.m.

Against Reardan (2-9, 3-11), Newport got their second and third wins within three days against Reardan. The Grizzlies won 8-0 Tuesday, April 22 at Reardan.

In the first doubleheader game Friday, Hank Kirkwood had a heavy bat, going 3 for 4, with a double, triple and three RBIs.

Kirkwood kept up the hitting in the second game, where he also went 3 for 4, with a triple and home run.
