Newport hosts League meet

NEWPORT – The Grizzly track and field team hosted the NE2B League Meet No. 3 and won some top spots for themselves Thursday, May 1.

Raybon Jurgens won first place in shot put, throwing 42 feet, 9 inches, then went on to win first in discus at 122’,6”. Teammate Roman Tannehill was sixth in shotput with a personal record of 36’,9” and fourth in discus with another PR of 107’,10”.

Lucas Croswhite broke a PR and won second place in the boys’ 100-meter race at 11.61. Gabriel Wendle was second in the 800-meter at 2:35.05, followed by John Spring in third at 2:50.35.

Damien Hamberg was second in high jump at 5’,8”. Dax Hansen was third at 5’,2”.

Rheinford placed fifth in the 1600-meter at 5:12.03, followed by Wendle in sixth at 5:48.03.

Croswhite went on to take second place in pole vault at 10’,6”.

Hamberg took second place in the triple jump at 37’.

Hailey Davison won third in the girls’ 400-meter with a PR of 1:09.09. She placed fourth in the 100-meter race with a time of 14.17. She also took fourth in the 200-meter with a PR of 29.82.

Sophia Peaker was fourth in the 400-meter with a PR of 1:11.77.

Maelee Jurgens won third place in javelin, throwing a PR of 68’,2”. Savannah Garris had her own PR of 64’,8”, taking fifth place.

Clover Tannehill won fourth in discus with a PR of 70’2”.

Aurelia Johnson placed second in high jump with 4’,6”. Johnson went on to take sixth in the long jump at 12’.3”.

Newport traveled to Colfax Tuesday, after The Miner went to press, for the NE2B Team Championships. After that, they host the Newport Invite Tuesday, May 13 at Don Ellersick Field. The first event starts at 3 p.m.
