NEWPORT – The Newport tennis team hosted its senior night Monday, April 28, versus Chewelah and had a great night of tennis.
“Our last meeting was a sweep so it was good to be able to get a couple of wins on our side of things this time around,” coach Brandon McDaniel said.
Heaven won Newport’s No. 3 singles match and Olivia and Emma came away with a huge three set win against their No. 1 doubles.
Kettle Falls was Newport’s second stop for the week and they came away with a 3-2 win there. Oliva and Lindsay Collison teamed up for the No. 2 doubles and had a great first time showing for never having played together.
Newport’s last stop was Freeman on Friday where Marisa came away with a strong win at No. 1, but unfortunately was Newport’s only win of the night for the Lady Griz.
“Preston had a great match against their No. 1 that went three sets as he had to do a tie break for the second and third set to secure the win,” McDaniel said.
Newport finishes out the regular season this week at Reardon for a makeup on Tuesday, after The Miner went to press, and Wednesday they will be heading to Sprague to face Lind-Ritzville. The first day of the district tournament will be Saturday, May 3, over in East Valley.
