IONE — The Ione Bridge crossing the Pend Oreille River will undergo scheduled maintenance and painting later this month, according to the Pend Orielle County Public Works Department.
For the safety of workers and the public, the bridge will have temporary closures for several nights during the project Monday-Saturday, May 12–17 with potential overnight closures as well.
“This work is essential to extend the bridge’s lifespan, preserve its structural integrity, and maintain safe travel for years to come,” according to the public works department. “Pend Oreille County is committed to proactive infrastructure care and appreciates the community’s patience and understanding during these improvements.”
The open deck bridge was originally designed and installed in the 1930s and had the approaches updated with concrete and additional supports in the 1960s.
The county asks residents and travelers to plan accordingly and watch for alerts and additional updates.
