Newport Head Start retains funding for school year

NEWPORT — Despite cuts to the program at the federal level, Newport’s Head Start still has its funding for the 2025–2026 school year.

The funding will remain the same as this past school year, wrote Alaina Kowitz in an email. Kowitz is the communications and outreach manager at Rural Resources Community Action.

The federal government is currently working on its budget for fund year 2026–2027. Kowitz clarified via email that any news or discussions about proposed budgets are referring to that budget year.
