NEWPORT — It’s time for Newport track and field to lace up those cleats and do their stretches as they get ready to head to the NE 2B State Qualifier, May 22–24 at Whitworth University. The first event starts at noon May 22.
Lucas Croswhite will compete in the 110-meter hurdles, the 4x1 relay, javelin and pole vaulting.
Jackson Frantz will compete in the 110-meter hurdle; Dax Hansen in the 4x1 relay and triple jump; Damien Hamberg in the 4x1, shot put and high jump; Aidan Kramer in the 4x1; Rayben Jurgens, shot put, discus; Roman Tannehill, shot put, discus; Merrick Frye long jump; Olivia Collins, 3200-meter, 4x4 relay; Sophia Peaker in the 4x4, high jump; Joelle Brandtner, 4x4, long jump and triple jump; Hailey Davison, 4x4, long and triple jumps; Dusty McDaniel, shot put, discus; Maelee Jurgens, javelin; Aurelia Johnson, high jump; Tanner Rheinford in the 1600, 3200 and 4x1alternative; Savannah Garris in the 4x4, triple jump, alternative for javelin; and Clover Tanehill as an alternative for discus.
Athletes who place in the top four or make state qualifying marks will go on to the WIAA 1B/2B/1A State Championship Meet May 29-31 at Zaepfel Stadium in Yakima.
