As this administration plumbs new depths of Constitution shredding, I begin to wonder if there is a bottom to their depravity. Here is a suggestion to address a current need. Rather than spending up to $45 million on a parade for he who would be king, why not put that money to good use and hire as many immigration judges as possible to address the backlog of cases of those wanting to enter the country legally? Throw in the money, up to a billion dollars, that would be spent on the “gift” aircraft to bring it up to necessary specs as an Air Force One, and perhaps it would do a lot towards taking care of the border crisis. As to that aircraft, why should we the people be asked to foot the bill for these upgrades only to let he who would be king keep it when he’s done ravishing the country? Emoluments anyone? Just asking.

As the house burns down
I am tired of gang warfare politics. We belong to one of the gangs and defend our gang like our life depends on it. The gang in power screws up our government systems and we turn to the other gang to fix what was broken. This endless cycle prevents social, economic or political progress by keeping us divided, never working together. This is like having firefighters who are arsonists. They set your house on fire and then want praise for putting out the fire they started.
K.C. Hunt implied that it’s the Democrats job to fix what Trump screws up. We must provide solutions to Trump’s erratic and destructive governing. Otherwise, we must jump on the Trump train heading for the ravine with the collapsed bridge.
Recall that when Democrats got pinned with defunding the police because the police were ineffective in stopping crime, Republicans objected. Trump is defunding many government programs with the claim they are ineffective, and we are not allowed to object.
Cancer research is being defunded with the claim that we still have cancer. Public education is being defunded with the claim that test scores are not improving. Meanwhile, we are watching the house burn down.

Kudos Spokane County
In this day of worry about what our dictator may destroy next, it is so refreshing to find something pleasant to wrap our mind around. On our way to all those sordid (old People) Doctor appointments in Spokane, give yourselves a break and stop in at Bear Lake on the north end of the final four lane.
It is beautiful, there are docks for people to fish from and when I was there, they were not only fishing but catching as well. Small fish, Trout and Perch but my mouth is small; I realize J.D. Vance could undoubtably swallow a Dolphin with his big mouth. I’m sorry, I meant to not make this political.
Also a hiking, dog walking trail around the lake, give it a view!

The Businessman
Trump had quite the Mother’s Day weekend. He stopped a nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan, freed the last American hostage from Hamas, signed an EO to lower prescription drug prices by 30% to 80%, negotiated trade talks with China and prepared for a week in the Middle East.
How did Trump negotiate a ceasefire between India and Pakistan? Through trade. He told them both that he wanted to do a lot of trade with them, but only through a ceasefire. They decided they needed U.S. markets more than they wanted to continue fighting. The Art of the Deal.
Trump put a 90-day pause on tariffs to bring China to the table. It turns out that China and our team had been already meeting quietly. The EO reducing prescription drug prices will almost certainly be challenged in court by big pharma. Think of the billions they will lose. The plan will reduce prices in the U.S. and raise the rest of the world’s prices. Equality.
Trumps Middle East Trip garnered trillions in new investment coming to America. He made great deals at every stop. Iran is considering giving up their nuclear aspirations for U.S. trade. The businessman.

Kevin’s gift
I have a relative who is in Hospice, dying from the effects of alcoholism. One of many affected by the disease.
As part of my soul searching, I discovered something that astounded me. I read “The Easy Way to Control Alcohol” by Allen Carr. In it he presents a process that does not require willpower. It merely challenges all the things we believe about alcohol and exposes them as lies. Once we see the truth of our erroneous belief, we ourselves can walk away. The process is so effective their courses have a money-back guarantee.
If alcoholism is truly based upon lies, it makes it the most effective feat of propaganda there ever was! Case in point: Do we really drink because we like the taste, or have we made ourselves get used to it? More importantly, why would we do that?
Edward Bernays said, “It is possible to control and regiment the masses according to our will, without them knowing it.” We should ask ourselves … Why am I drinking? Is that truth? A lie? Or am I being controlled?
Maybe that is Kevin’s gift. To illuminate the lie, so others can see the truth. May it be so.

Why Do They Want Him to Fail?
Just curious why most of the opinion letters that criticize President Trump accepted the way Mr. Biden drove the U.S. economy into the ground. Why they accepted Biden’s open border policy allowing millions of unvetted illegal aliens to enter this country. Allowed a tremendous amount of illegal drugs to enter the United States. How they put up with his futile attempt of a foreign based on appeasement that weakened and embarrassed our country worldwide That being said, are the liberal supporters of the Democrat party hoping Trump fails with his way of governing because the previous office holder failed? Is their progressive form of government more important than the success of the U.S.?
Trump immediately closed the border, is negotiating ceasefires wherever there is conflict, negotiating fair trade deals across the world, has regained respect for our country and has the economy on an upswing. Do these naysayers have TDS or simply low self-esteem? K.C. Hunt Newport
I bet the Pope didn’t mind how Trump dressed at funeral
If you seriously believe that President Trump’s dress at the Pope’s funeral was appalling your thinking is very limited in comparison to what’s happening in the world. (‘What a disgrace’, letters, May 7) If you haven’t heard about it, there is a horrible war going on between Ukraine and Russia, the securing the border form illegals until they go through proper channels, the show of support for all our service people and police men and women who protect all of us, the investments in the US economy of billions of dollars by foreign countries. I could go on and on.
You’re not very smart or lacking wisdom, so who looks like the ass now? I’m sure the Pope didn’t mind his attire.

Washington in Crisis!
* The state gas tax is currently 49.4 cents per gallon, but it will increase to 55.4 cents per gallon starting July 1, 2025, with a 2% annual increase to keep up with inflation (ranking 48th in the nation) * Diesel fuel will see a 3-cent increase in July 2025, followed by another 3-cent increase the next year, then a 2% annual increase starting in 2028.
* The vehicle registration filing fee will rise from $4.50 to $6, and the title filing fee will increase from $5.50 to $6.50. Service fees will go up from $23 to $29.
* New proposals include higher registration fees for electric and hybrid vehicles to compensate for lost gas tax revenue.
* A 0.3% portion of the state’s sales tax revenue (about $800 million annually) will be redirected to the transportation budget.
These changes are part of Washington’s $15 billion transportation budget ... What are we getting for all these taxes and fees?
* Washington ranks 47th in road quality * The number of WSDOT bridges in poor condition is expected to exceed the 10% federal safety threshold by 2026 * Factoring in gas, insurance and maintenance costs, Washington ranks as the third-most expensive state for car ownership Nice job liberals!
