PULLMAN – Newport has been building a Future Farmers of America Chapter for the past two years and it has grown to nearly 30 members.
It’s the second largest organization at Newport High School.
“With the help from Maws & Paws and fundraisers, we have been able to create opportunities for students to travel and experience FFA including State Convention, multiple Career Development Events (CDEs) and Leadership Development Events (LDEs),” one of the members, Emma Crabtree, said.
“This year, we are able to start our alumni association that will consist of graduated students from the current FFA Chapter as well as students from our past FFA Chapter.
This new alumni association will help us grow as a program and allows many more connections that will positively benefit our Newport FFA Chapter.”
Crabtree said over the past two years, students have competed in livestock judging, meat judging, AG sales, prepared public speaking, trap and skeet shooting, barbeque, creed, and FARM for kids. “Several of these teams have made it to the stage at the State convention, a great success for our two-year chapter.”
To go on the stage at the State convention, students have to make top 8 for team events and top 10 for individuals.
Wednesday, May 28, the chapter had the annual FFA banquet where students and their families gather for a dinner and awards, followed by a game of wiffle ball. At the banquet, several people were recognized for their contribution and positive impact towards our FFA Chapter. All the students in FFA were recognized for many different awards including first year degrees, officer awards, and awards for competing in State convention.
