NEWPORT – The proposed Emergency Services District will be one of two topics of a Coffee with The Chief/Coffee with The Council event Saturday, June 7, according to a news release from South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue. The event will be held at My Sidewalk Café at 300 S. Washington Ave. in Newport and starts at 9:30 a.m.
“There will be two parts, a quick presentation of the state of the EMS district talks, and why Newport and SPOFR stand together against this concept, followed by plenty of time to answer questions and talk with our neighbors,” SPOFR Fire Chief Shane Stocking said in the news release.
The second part will be a presentation on home wildfire safety by SPOFR, with time for questions about how to prepare for wildfire season.
Newport councilmembers Nathan Longley and Mark Zorica will be there, as will Stocking and SPOFR commissioners.
Graduation day coming up
NEWPORT – Communities in the Pend Oreille River Valley are celebrating high school graduates, starting with the Newport High School Senior Parade around town Friday, June 6 at 5:15 p.m. The graduation ceremony follows at 7 p.m. The high school is located at 1380 5th St., Newport.
Cusick High School will celebrate graduation Friday, June 6, 8:30-10:30 p.m. at the Kalispel Pow Wow Grounds, located at 99180 Pow Wow Park, Cusick.
The Pend Oreille River School celebrates graduation Saturday, June 7, 10 a.m. to Noon, located at 110 Pine St., Newport.
Priest River Lamanna High graduation is Saturday, June 7, 10 a.m. to noon in the Jr./Sr. high gymnasium. The school is located at 596 Hwy. 57, Priest River.
Selkirk High School seniors will celebrate their graduation Saturday, June 7 at 1 p.m. The school is located at 10372 Hwy. 31, Ione.
In the realm of collegiate education, there will be a graduation ceremony for students at Spokane Community College’s Newport location on Wednesday, June 11, 6 p.m. at Newport High School.
