Thornley’s American Dream

From the north of England is from where Pete came, He brought with him enthusiasm and the love for a game.

When I met Pete his playing days had mostly past bye, then a merger came to create the Blaze and a sparkle in his eye.

Pete was the first President of the Chicago Blaze Rugby Club, most of our meetings and discussions were held in a bar or a pub.

Our home games were played in various forest preserves and parks, Talk was had of a Blaze perpetual home, then came Pete’s remarks.

He had a dream for an extensive complex like they have in Britain, Where rugby began, and matches played, with players sometime bitten.

A place to play, then enjoy a pint or two and maybe sing a few songs, bond with our team, have a good time, pretend we can do no wrong.

We were blessed to know Pete Thornley, his dream did make us better, So now it’s time to raise your glass to our friend and true trendsetter!
