CHEHALIS — Three Newport High School clay shooters who qualified for the state championships held in Chehalis, Saturday, June 7, brought back medals.

Luke Wright took a second-place medal in trapshooting, hitting 94 out of 100 clays.

Lindsay-Rose Collison won second in skeet shooting, hitting 88 of 100 in the female’s division, and Landon Hall came out fourth, hitting 91 of 100. Collison also won the high over award, which goes to the shooter who has broken the most clays.

There are 12 shooters on the Newport team, which started in 2021, according to their Facebook page. They compete against teams from around the state.

Other schools shoot on the Newport team, including students from Priest River, although only Newport shooters qualified for the state tournament.

In addition to taking second in state, Collison took home a trophy belt buckle for being the top skeet shooter at Newport. She also finished first in the league.

Wright tied for second in the league and won a trophy buckle for being the top Newport trapshooter.
