METALINE FALLS — The Metaline Falls Town Council heard reports at its meeting Tuesday, May 13.

Public presentations included a report by Pend Oreille County Commissioner Robert Rosencrantz on the county Emergency Services study and upcoming hearings, a review of all calls by the Pend Oreille Sheriff’s Office from Sheriff Glenn Blakeslee and calls received by Fire District 2 from Assistant Chief Blake McAnerin, wrote Mayor Tara Leininger in a news release.

Other public reports included updates on a possible community garden and the design for the Toledya-K Park, which Leininger wrote will be located next to the Town Hall.

The maintenance report included a notification of new ownership for Gary’s Garbage Service and the approval of a credit card system for wastewater payments.

Leininger reported on the upcoming primary elections, with three candidates including herself running for mayor and council positions one and four running unopposed. She met with the Pend Oreille Valley Railroad and property managers for the stormwater project on a liability issue concerning a drywell on POVA property, the Busta Park site leased by the town.

A public information forum on emergency preparedness will be held by Leininger at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 8 at the Town Hall.
