CUSICK — Pend Oreille and West Bonner Counties are celebrating the Fourth of July this year with several events.
The Kalispel Tribe is holding two fireworks shows, one at Kalispel Casino in Cusick Saturday, July 5 and the other at Northern Quest Resort and Casino in Airway Heights July 4. Both shows are free to all, and the July 5 show will have family-friendly fun and live music before the fireworks viewing at dusk. The Tribe’s NDN Pyro Crew is putting on both fireworks shows.
Due to limited funding, the Priest River Chamber of Commerce has cancelled its Fourth of July fireworks show for this year. But Priest River will have another event, a Fourth of July Family Fun Festival. Presented by Odd Fellows Lodge No. 67 and Priest River Youth Connections, the festival is from noon to 4 p.m. July 4 on Main Street and will have a variety of community vendors and free, family- friendly games and activities.
About 10 miles southeast of Priest River is another event, a Fourth of July Celebration hosted by the Valley Baptist Church at 7336 Spirit Lake Cutoff Rd. The celebration starts at noon Friday, July 4 with a Flag Ceremony, with family-friendly activities to follow. There will also be snow cones, cotton candy and a barbeque.
Old Fashioned Fourth of July is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 4 in Spirit Lake.
Organized by the Spirit Event Committee, Old Fashioned Fourth of July will have a parade at 11 a.m. starting at Spirit Lake Elementary School, vendors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Spirit Lake City Park and fireworks at dusk in Volunteer Park.
Another July 4 fireworks display will be over Priest Lake, at dusk by Elkins Resort on Priest Lake.
Back in Pend Oreille County, Cusick will have another event, a Fourth of July Car Show at noon Friday, July 4. American Legion Calispel Post No. 217 is hosting the annual show as part of an open house and membership drive, with burgers, fries and beverages for the community. In Usk, Calispel Post No. 217 is hosting a Fourth of July Parade, which starts at 11 a.m. by the Usk Community Hall at 2442 Black Rd.
The Usk Community Hall is hosting its annual Fourth of July pancake breakfast and basket raffle fundraiser July 4. The hall is serving pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee and juice from 8 to 11 a.m. for $7 each, or free for children 5 years old and younger. Raffle ticket sales start 8 a.m., with the first drawing at 10:30 a.m., and are $1 for one ticket or $5 for six. There will also be a free children’s fishing game with prizes. Eventgoers are recommended to bring lawn chairs for the parade.
Diamond Lake has two July 4 events, the Diamond Lake Fourth of July Half Marathon and Boat Parade. The half marathon course runs 13.09 miles in and around Diamond Lake, with an optional milelong swim that starts at 6 a.m. The race starts at about 7:15 a.m. There is a $10 entry fee, $35 including a shirt. The Boat Parade usually starts at 2 p.m. at the Diamond Lake boat launch.
In the northern part of Pend Oreille County, Metaline’s Fourth of July potluck and fireworks show are at 6 p.m. and at dark July 4 in Metaline Park. Eventgoers must bring their own beverages.
In nearby Metaline Falls, a non-Fourth of July event will follow Saturday, July 5. The second annual season of Music in the Park will continue at 2 p.m. in Busta Park, with children’s crafts, a play and singalongs, including gospel-singing.
