NEWPORT — The Newport School District has announced a Summer Food Service Program for children, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Meals will be served at no charge to children 18 years old and younger from July 7 to Aug. 1 at Stratton Elementary School. Breakfast is from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m., and lunch is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Veteran Stand Down providing free services

NEWPORT — The 2025 Veteran Stand Down is providing free services to veterans this month.

Presented by American Legion Post No. 155 in Oldtown, this year’s Veteran Stand Down will provide information and assistance from federal, state and county agencies, nonprofits and other groups regarding medical, financial, housing, employment, Veterans Affairs benefits and Social Services.

Attending the annual event are representatives from the Department of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Space Force.

Free lunch is provided, with a Bonner County Community Food Bank distribution requiring sign-in to participate. According to a flyer advertising the 2025 Veteran Stand Down, volunteers are needed.
