NEWPORT — Create Arts Center is hosting a series of art classes and demonstrations this summer, along with an art market and live music.
Demonstrations at Coffee in the Garden is from 10 a.m. to noon on seven Thursdays in July and August. Weezil will demonstrate wire art on the first day, July 10, then teach a six-strand twisted copper bracelet class at 12:30 p.m. for $25. Pre-registration is required for this class, in person at 900 W. 4th St. or online on Create’s website at createarts.org.
The rest of the series follows July 17 with Shaun Deller’s woodcarving demo and 11 a.m. youth class; July 24 with Lynn Walters’ demo of alcohol links on rocks; July 31 with Pend Oreille Fiber Arts’ demo of spinners of fleece, knitters and more; Aug. 7 with Bill Moore’s outlaw drummers’ rhythm healing; Aug. 14 with Linda Cassella and friends’ ukuleles and guitars; and Aug. 21 with Stephanie McMeachan’s belly dance. There will be coffee, tea, treats and conversation.
Artists in the Garden, from noon to 3 p.m. July 20, includes diverse regional artists with items for sale. There will be live music by Popeye Rose Social Club and refreshments.

Innovia Foundation’s Photo Contest entries due July 16
SPOKANE — Innovia Foundation opens its sixth annual photo contest under the theme: Make More Possible.
Limited to five photographs per entrant, submissions are due by Wednesday, July 16.
Photographers are invited to submit images that celebrate the unique identity and spirit of their hometowns, neighborhoods and communities. Open to photographers of all ages and free to enter, the contest includes nine categories.
Photos must be taken within Innovia Foundation’s 20-county service area in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Children under the age of 18 are required to have a guardian’s permission to enter.
For the first time, Innovia will be accepting video entries to the contest. Video clips must be horizontal and at least 10 seconds, and can capture people, landmarks, events and more.
To support local nonprofits, the overall first-place photographer will receive a $1,000 grant awarded to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization of their choice, along with a canvas print of their photo and a feature on Innovia’s website. Each category winner will also receive a $200 grant awarded to a nonprofit of choice, a canvas print and website feature.

Weed identification, regulations topics of July 10 class
NEWPORT — The Pend Oreille County Master Gardeners have invited Lorette Nichols and Heather Pound from the Weed Board to present about noxious weeds regulations, weed identification and identification tools, prevention and control.
The class is at 6:30 p.m. July 10 at Create Arts Center, 900 4th St. in Newport. The class fee is $5, or $3 for MGs, and can be paid with cash, check, money order or through PayPal.
