Pollinators workshop July 15
NEWPORT - Pollinators play a crucial role in the reproduction of flowering plants, including those that produce fruits and vegetables. There are many other benefits associated with pollinators as well, which is why the Newport Community Garden Committee has decided to host its next workshop on pollinators in the garden.
This workshop will be held Tuesday, July 15 at 11 a.m., at the Newport Library, 116 S. Washington Ave.
Dominic Casolari, the Agriculture Program Coordinator with the Pend Oreille Conservation District, will discuss pollinators at the Newport Community Garden located at the Newport Library. All ages are welcome to join. Part of the program will be held inside the Library, with a couple of fun activities outside at the garden.
The Newport Community Garden is a collaborative effort. The Pend Oreille Conservation District, the Newport Library, Friends of the POC Library District, WSU Extension and the Master Gardeners/ SNAP-Ed program are all involved.
For this year’s supplies and educational programming, the committee is relying on funding from community donations to the Friends of the Library, as well a grant from the National Association of Conservation Districts’ Urban Agriculture Conservation program.
