CUSICK — Selkirk Alliance for Science has invited a former area resident to speak at a Power of Science presentation, “Why We Explore Deep Space,” July 26.
Sue Linch, Lockheed Martin Lunar Exploration Campaign spacecraft manager, is a graduate of Kellogg High School, University of Idaho and the George Washington University Joint Institute for Advancement of Flight Sciences.
Linch has worked on space station and shuttle projects, Earth atmosphere and solar studies, deep space asteroid monitoring and lunar communication and navigation systems. She is currently working to develop nuclear electric power and propulsion for applications in deep space, or the space between Earth and the Moon or the Moon’s orbit. During the presentation, Linch will describe which deep space and Earth orbiting missions have benefitted society.
The presentation is at 6 p.m. at the Camas Center for Community Wellness, 1821 LeClerc Rd. N. in Cusick. It is free to the public and open to all ages. A science door prize will also be awarded for free to one attendee.
The Kalispel Natural Resources Department, Responsible Growth Northeast Washington and Create Arts Center are also supporting the presentation.
