Romantic Wake-up Call
This memory dates back several years ago, but it has stayed with me. I was doing some late-night grocery shopping at Super 1 Foods in Oldtown and was one of only a handful of customers in the store.
As I was perusing the aisles, I saw two young men shopping nearby me. One was talking excitedly, apparently upset that another guy had been hitting on his girlfriend at a party or bar, and the other had the air of one who had heard this particular drama before. As they got closer to me, the more animated of the two was saying something along the lines of, “Other dudes just keep flirting with her; I know she’s hot, but it p***es me off,” etc., etc. Finally, his friend seemed to have had enough because he curtly replied, “Dude, no one wants your girlfriend. I don’t know why you want her.”
