PRIEST RIVER — Priest Lake Memory Gardens received the donation of a new bench from the Priest Lake Lions Club because of a very successful Lions recycling program. The bench was donated when a large group of Lions members recently visited the Memory Gardens located near the Priest Lake Golf Course just off Highway 57 at Priest Lake.
Since April 2023, the Priest Lake Lions Club has been participating in a program with TREX recycling, the company that makes popular composite decking and deck furniture. The club is collecting clean, dry plastic grocery and shopping bags, newspaper sleeves, Ziplock or other resealable food storage bags, bubble wrap plastic, shipping envelopes, overwrap from paper towels and other plastic film and bags marked No. 2 or No. 4.
“We sincerely appreciate the donation from our Lions Club,” said Memory Gardens Board President Brian Miller. “The bench is of high quality and will give our visitors a comfortable spot to relax.”
Miller noted the local Lions Club has been a long-time supporter of the Memory Gardens and provided one of the original financial donations to the project in 2014 when it was first envisioned.
Residents can make a difference by recycling bags and films through the Priest Lake Lions. As a result, the club will earn TREX benches that it can sell, donate or raffle as a fundraiser to further support their community projects.
With the enthusiastic support of the community, the Priest Lake Lions have already collected 12,178 pounds of recyclable bags and films. Collection bins are located near the ice cream parlor at the Tamrak grocery store, at the Priest Lake Library, at the Priest Lake Elementary School and in Ardy’s Cafe in Coolin.
Present for the bench donation were Lions Club President Kim White, Vice President Reny Rose, 2nd Vice President Michael White, Treasurer Doug True, Treasurer Trainee Dave Wagner and members Mary True, Donna Soden, Debi Wager, Tom Holman, Cal Marston, Julie Johnson, Karen Oliver, Judy Booth, Martha Wright, Bob Wright and guest Joe Wall.
