Examine own bias before criticizing

Republican hypocrisy part two: Much was made last year, with justification, of the age related mental decline of President Biden. Why is there not the same outcry about the current president? Sleeping in meetings, nonsensical answers, rambling non sequiturs and more frequent bizarre outbursts such as the Unibomber tale.

Speaking of hypocrites, it seems the writer of the ‘Need clarification on relevance’ letter of July 16 has fallen prey to her own criticism, having obviously not read my July 9 letter carefully. Not only have they misinterpreted the dataset they cast doubt on the data itself without providing any factual evidence otherwise. That data did not use January inflation data from 2021 through 2025. It covered January through the following January of those years. What is worse is how the letter itself devolves into a sophomoric diatribe.

It is concerning when writers stoop to such illogical blathering. Expecting more of the same I will decline any further discourse until this writer can raise the dialogue to an adult level. It seems they need to examine their own bias before criticizing others.

Manufacturing a wedge issue

A “wedge issue” is spun up by the media whenever they wish to cause infighting within the targeted group. The wedge can be race, gender, climate panic, wars, or even gas stoves. The point is generating friction that splits a group into less powerful factions. Agencies and their NGOs have mastered weaponizing empathy by triggering just enough moral outrage to make compromise impossible, then stepping back to watch the infighting.

On July 14, House Democrats filed a proposed amendment to a cryptocurrency bill that would force the DOJ into releasing the Epstein files. House Republicans shot it down. Ro Khanna asked rhetorically, “Are you on the side of the rich and powerful, or are you on the side of the people?” promising to re-introduce his amendment “again and again and again.” Finally! The wedge issue they’ve been waiting for to destroy MAGA!

First, some background: just two years ago Democrats called Epstein speculation a “QAnon dogwhistle” and “right-wing paranoia” – attempting to kill the disconcerting accusations? Now it appears they’re “polishing their halos” and demanding Pam Bondi release the files. I wonder: are their gleeful demands coming now that they feel “safe” since the FBI/DOJ closed the investigation? -Kamori Cattadoris Newport

Summer’s heating up

July 18, 2025, might go down as a date to remember. Tulsi Gabbard, Director of DNI, released a bombshell. She released documents and emails that show in December of 2016 Obama knew there was no Russian interference in the 2016 election. A week later Obama held a meeting with John Brennan, James Clapper and a couple of others.

Handwritten notes showed they knew the Steele Dossier was at least mostly unverifiable. They decided to ‘manufacture’ the Russian collusion story. Tulsi has referred this evidence to Bondi’s DOJ. If this turns out to be true, they were setting the stage to overthrow a sitting president. Will Cain first broke this news on his show on FOX at 1 p.m. The rest of the afternoon several other outlets followed with the story. Boom.

At the same time, with both Rs and Ds calling for the Epstein files to be released, Bondi went to the grand jury to ask them to release all that they could. We will probably hear more on that next week. When Trump said Epstein was a hoax and to forget about it, everyone began calling for the release. Did Trump set a trap? Time may tell.

Country should care more about floods, fires

People are dying in floods and fires and what is MAGA crying about? The Jeffery Epstein client list coverup by the Justice Department. The list was going to expose famous Democrats and exonerate Republicans like Trump. It looks like Trump was on the list, so no release. Trump bragged about walking into the Miss Teen USA Pageant dressing room and seeing the underage girls. The public video of Trump and Epstein having a party with young girls and ogling the dancing girls is very telling. Trump gets a pass for his behavior, but God help a Green Card holder with a traffic ticket that Trump ICE police sends to Alligator Alcatraz.

Our country should be concerned about floods and fires. America is burning and people are drowning in once-in-a-lifetime floods. Our region recently dodged a fire bullet when winds increased as a weather front rolled by during high temperatures. We were a lightning strike away from seeing our homes in ashes.

Trump’s bill has $170 billion for deportation but just Biden leftovers for response to floods and fires. MAGA’s are burying their drowned kids and family members but can take solace in deporting babies born in America to non-citizen parents.

Millionaire politicians criticizing billionaires

After reading the July 16 letter, “Republicans are hypocrites,” as a true Independent not a Vermont Senator Independent, let’s flip the script. The national debt is only a concern when an individual’s political party isn’t in power. When the opposing party engages in filibustering, an objection is likely. Conversely, when one’s party holds power, for same action they are patriots.

Upon reviewing the $118 billion border bill, I was surprised that it was a bipartisan vote against the legislation. During the second vote, even more no votes occurred, including two of the bill’s three authors. Did all senators who voted against the bill support the presidential candidate who advocated for its elimination? It turns out the legislation was unnecessary to stop the flow. Like fixing a leaky faucet, border security needs an immediate halt to the flow before sensible actions can be taken. How did halting the funded wall construction and selling those high tech materials at pennies on the dollar help stop the flow?

It’s “rich” that multimillionaire politicians are the most vocal in criticizing billionaires for not contributing their fair share. The same affluent politicians criticized the wealthy millionaires before they became multimillionaires themselves.
