Local Marine Corp veteran Benjamin L. White looks over the footwear options with Hansena DiNoia of Healthcare for Homeless Veterans at the Pend Oreille County Stand Down Saturday, July 19 at Newport High School. The annual event offers free military surplus and clothes to veterans, as well as connects them with Veterans Affairs benefits and resources through federal organizations and nonprofits. This month’s event is the first year the Henry E. Bergdorf American Legion Post #155, based in Oldtown, organized the event. Approximately 150 veterans were served. For more information on the American Legion and how to volunteer for or support the Stand Down, go to www.bergdorf155.org or call Andy Meyer at 661-609-0197.
