Two August blood drives in Newport

NEWPORT — There are two opportunities for people to donate blood in Newport in August.

The first drive is Thursday, Aug. 21, on the bus outside St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 612 W. First St., in Newport. The drive will run from 9:30 a.m. through 1:30 p.m.

The second drive will be Tuesday, Aug. 26, on the bus outside Newport Community Hospital, 714 Pine St., Newport.

The drive will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Donors of all blood types are vital, especially type O which is compatible with most patients.

Summer is often referred to as “trauma season” when blood needs from outdoor activities can increase. Because it’s perishable, blood must be ready before it’s needed.
