NEWPORT — Demonstrations at Coffee in the Garden is from 1 a.m. to noon coming up in August at Create Art Center.
Thursday, Aug. 7 there will be a Bill Moore’s outlaw drummers’ rhythm healing demonstration. Aug. 14 Linda Cassella and friends will have a ukuleles and guitars demonstration and Aug. 21 Stephanie McMeachan will demonstrate belly dance. There will be coffee, tea, treats and conversation at all the events.

Class on growing nightshade vegetables Aug. 14
NEWPORT — Thursday, Aug. 14, the Master Gardeners are offering a Growing Nightshade Vegetables class. The class starts at 1 p.m. and will take place at the WSU Extension Office, located at 227 S. Garden Ave. in Newport.
Three of America’s favorite crops are from the nightshade family: potatoes, tomatoes and peppers. Master Gardeners will walk you through all the steps for growing these delights. Included are growing tips from selecting seeds to plant requirements, how to handle potential pests and problems and how to bypass common missteps so you can enjoy the fruits of your harvests. Storage options are also reviewed. After the discussion, participants are invited to observe these crops in the Master Gardeners Demonstration Garden. The class fee is $5 ($3 for MGs), and can be paid by cash, check, money order or through PayPal.

Creative District ice cream social coming up
NEWPORT – The Newport Creative District is hosting an ice cream social Saturday, Aug. 23, 1-4 p.m. in Newport City Park. There will be activities, live music and handmade ice cream from Owen’s Grocery and Deli. The Newport Creative District is defined as the walkable area of downtown that is the hub of economic and cultural activity.
“The Newport Creative District mission is connecting creativity, economy, and culture across community,” according to the district’s website. “The vision is for Newport to be a creative, dynamic, and thriving community.
Promoting and supporting the arts can be a means to achieving that vision.”

Sip & Paint Nights happening in August
METALINE FALLS - The Pend Oreille County Library District will host two Sip & Paint nights this month.
These events are great for girls’ nights, date nights, or just enjoying some time creating. The Metalines Community Library in Metaline Falls will host their event on Friday, Aug. 8 at 5 p.m. This event will feature beer and wine sales courtesy of the Cutter Theater or no cost mocktails mixed by library staff. The Newport Library will host their event on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 5 p.m. and feature library mixed mocktails.
