Artists wanted for Creatives in the Classroom

NEWPORT — Creatives in the Classroom is an innovative and engaging program that connects professional artists of any genre or style with school children.

This program is currently serving Newport schools, but Newport Creative District plans to expand the program into outlying area schools as the program matures.

Artists will be paid for their time and supplies. NCD will pay artists $40 for an hour of preparations and travel time and second $40 for up to an hour of class time.

NCD will reimburse artists’ expenses for supplies up to $50 for each classroom engagement.

Interested artists must fill out the application on the NCD’s website.

NCD adds the artist to the registry of artists that will be presented to educators.

Educators look through the registry for an artist that seems to fit their needs. They make their selections based on what each artist provides in their application, so applicants should be thorough.

Artist and educator will work on a lesson plan for their Creatives in the Classroom time. NCD will work with the educators and artists on the appropriate schedule for their Creatives in the Classroom times.

Artist completes their scheduled Creatives in the Classroom time.

Artist, educator and students complete a review on their Creatives in the Classroom experience.

Afterwards, the artist submits an invoice for their time and supplies reimbursement.

“Any regional artist with a willingness to inspire imagination, ignite passion, engage the senses, and awaken arts education in a tech-driven world for the betterment of the generations to come,” according to the NCD website.
