Bylaws for a countywide proposed Emergency Services District were released last month. Here is a quick look at what they say.
* Commissioners of Pend Oreille County would immediately appoint a governing board after formation of the district.
* The initial members of the Board shall consist of one Director from the City of Newport Fire Department, which shall be represented by the City Administrator, and one Director from each of the four Fire Districts, FD 2, FD 4, FD 5, and South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue.
* The board would do no harm to the Newport Fire Department or an existing fire district * The directors shall serve without compensation. * No resolution shall be adopted or other final action taken without a unanimous vote of the entire Board.
* The district may purchase and maintain insurance, at its expense * The Pend Oreille County Treasurer shall serve as the ex-officio Treasurer of the District.
