Leininger doesn’t get out of primary

METALINE FALLS – Long-time mayor Tara Leinginger lost the primary election Tuesday in Metaline Falls. The three-way race was the only one in Pend Oreille County. 

Walter Minsal and Sherice McAnerin each received 30 votes and Leininger received 19. Eighty total ballots were cast, with one write-in. Voter turnout was 44.26%. 

Also on the ballot was a measure to increase the number of commissioners from Pend Oreille Fire District No. 2 from three to five, which is passing by five votes, 292 in favor to 287 opposed. 

Any ballots postmarked by Tuesday, Aug. 5 will continue to be counted. Check out next week’s issue of The Miner for final results.
