NEWPORT — The Washington State Department of Transportation yesterday started construction on Highway 2 by Newport.
WSDOT is repaving 4 miles of Highway 2 between Newport and South Shore Road by Diamond Lake. Travelers can expect nighttime work, with lane closures and pilot car operations for traffic control.
Estimated to last 30 working days before concluding in September, the project includes Hot Mix Asphalt griding, paving, pavement repair, crack sealing and joint adhesive. WSDOT is rehabilitating the existing mainline pavement to preserve the roadway’s structure and maintain safe operation of the highway.
This route was last paved in 2009. It is now showing significant wear and needs repair, according to WSDOT’s website at wsdot.wa.gov.
Funding for the project totals $2,485,000.
