YOUR OPINION

Let’s see if I have this right. The prevaricator-in-chief claims he will bring prescription prices down 1000%. Or 1,500%, or maybe 800% or 600%. Does the stable genius even realize that a 100% reduction means it is cost free? So if he actually does what he claims he will do when I go to get my medication it will not only be free but I will get money back. Sounds like a great plan to me. I’m not holding my breath.

The classic magic trick

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley compares the recent declassification of materials related to the 2016 “Crossfire Hurricane” Russia investigation to the three steps of a magic trick: The Pledge, The Turn and The Prestige.

The Pledge: the public is set up. The key is to make something seem real that isn’t. The Clinton campaign delivered the pledge by secretly funding the Steele dossier that fabricated a salacious account of Trump as a Russian agent for the FBI.

The Turn: tricks are employed to make the ordinary seem extraordinary. In July 2016, Brennan briefed former President Obama on the Clinton Team’s Trump take-down plan, and the Russia “investigation” was launched soon after. Career intelligence analysts objected that reliance on the questionable Steele dossier would undermine their credibility. Brennan responded, “Yes, but doesn’t it ring true?” The trick just needs to fool the audience.

The Prestige: the audience is fooled. This trick worked to derail Trump… until it didn’t. The Special Counsel and Inspector General both rejected the Russian collusion claims. Trump was reelected.

The media can’t report on how they helped sell a political hoax because an honest report would be a confession of their collusion.

Guest opinion needed more historical nuance

While Tara’s editorial call for compassion (‘A matter of faith …,’ Aug. 6) resonates deeply, a strict historical-critical reading of Leviticus 19:33-34 reveals a nuanced context. The “foreigner” (Hebrew: ger) in ancient Israel was a legally resident alien, one who had entered the community under established norms and was subject to its laws. This command ensured their just treatment within a defined legal framework, not an open-ended directive for unregulated entry into a sovereign nation.

Furthermore, a holistic view of scripture requires considering all relevant biblical principles. Romans 13:1-7, for instance, instructs believers to respect and obey governing authorities and the laws of the land. While we are unequivocally called to treat all individuals with dignity and love, a nation’s right to establish and enforce its borders and immigration laws is a distinct aspect of governance. Equating the ancient ger with modern undocumented immigrants, without acknowledging the differing legal and societal structures, risks misapplying scripture. Compassion must be balanced with a recognition of order and law, both biblically affirmed principles.

Curfew not conservative

In a town where everyone knows you’re gonna fart before you do, it is remarkable the amount of damage four juveniles can do in the wee hours.

Not long ago a city council member expressed dissatisfaction with the Sheriff’s response time during rodeo weekend. In other words the Sheriff didn’t drop everything they were doing and prioritize their call. To paraphrase the Sheriff’s response: “Give me the resources.”

When it was time to renegotiate the contract, the city and sheriff could not come to terms.

The city police department was reborn with the idea of responding to these types of calls and activities because a sheriff spread thin was running a little late.

I fail to see why you need a tool in your toolbelt to allow you to take a list of names. The school already takes care of that sort of thing.

If someone were on patrol you would’ve had enough reason to detain these individuals without having to look at your watch.

Besides, who’s out to enforce the curfew? The Sheriff?

The curfew gives you a reason to stop anyone, not just “kids,” some of whom are not bothering anyone.

Certainly not a conservative approach.

Endangerment Finding and AI

Maybe you heard that the EPA is planning to rescind the Endangerment Finding. It’s a 2009 policy that states that carbon dioxide, methane, and a few other gases in the atmosphere threaten the public health and welfare. It has been used since to push the US towards electric vehicles – fewer vehicles on the road, fewer noxious fumes in our noses.

...Unless you live near a power plant. That electricity comes from somewhere. In Washington, more likely than not it’s hydro power. But in many places, those same gases come out the smokestacks of fossil-fueled generators. And they’re also bad for our health.

“But we have dams,” you say. And you’re right. But what happens if the need for electricity is suddenly doubled? Recent predictions say that AI data centers will do just that over the next 5 years. We can’t scale up dams to meet that demand in such a short time. As a result, AI data centers have been installing their own generators at the local level. And those generators pump out those same noxious gases right in our backyards. Not to mention the huge volumes of fresh water they require.

I love the natural beauty of the place we live. I choose to live here rather than in a huge city, in part to avoid city problems like breathing exhaust day and night. I’m worried that rescinding the Endangerment Finding could choke us just as badly as someone living next to a bus stop in Seattle.

Majority party like to watch suffering

One true thing I have learned in life is that anything you count on can be gone in one political heartbeat. Your government can turn on you and leave you abandoned and wanting. It’s a government with total power no matter the political ideology. One moment you are in the majority and the next you have no voice or rights except to complain. Now we are paying a Trump tariff sales tax.

My political side has been in the minority for all 22 years I have lived in this community. Yet I find it amusing that most majority party residents are getting government assistance in the most socialist ways you can imagine. Nearly every Republican household gets a government check. Local, state and federal government jobs vastly outnumber the private sector jobs. DOGE never got here. If you don’t work for the government, you most likely have a job or business that supports it.

Funny how 72% of you voted for a congressman that supports cutting the very government services that you depend on. The majority party takes great joy in watching certain people suffer and struggle. They should look at their reflection in their political mirror and feel shame.

Received good service

Premier Tire in Priest River claims to have exceptional customer and I can attest that it is a very true statement. I want to send a big shout-out to David Till and his entire crew at Premier Tire.

Premier Tire had replaced the wheel bearings on my small trailer. Thirteen months later, there was a problem. I told David what had happened, and no questions asked, he owned the entire problem. I was back on the road right away. I know I would not have received the same level of exceptional customer care from a retail chain store.

All I can say is if you are not getting the exceptional customer care from your current shop, vote with your feet and get over to Premier Tire in Priest River. Save yourself the headaches, as well as money.

If your project is large or small, Premier Tire does it all. They have a mobile truck for servicing skidders, loaders, and passenger vehicle tires. But do not challenge them to an arm wrestling match, you will lose.
