IONE – The Selkirk and Northport school districts have joined forces for football, with a new name, the SelPort Lumberjacks.
They also have a new mascot and colors.
Selkirk and Northport high schools combined last year for football. Because neither school was able to field a full team independently, the two districts joined under a combined team name, mascot and colors, according to a post on the Selkirk website. They will continue to play 8-man football and Kelly Cain is coaching again this year.
Blue is an historical school color for both Selkirk and Northport, with black a current mutual color. The Lumberjack mascot represents the strong forestry industry in both communities.
The combined high school football program is open to all eighth through 12th graders.
Practice starts Aug. 20, with the first game at Republic Friday, Sept. 5.
