NEWPORT — A musician hailed as a blues guitar virtuoso and one of the finest acoustic guitarists on the international scene is soon to perform in Pend Oreille County.

Vancouver-born, Portland-based bluesman Terry Robb is performing at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19 at the Create Arts Center, 900 W. 4th St. in Newport.

Robb won the Muddy Award for Best Acoustic Guitar so many times, the Cascade Blues Association broke down and attached his name to the trophy permanently. And recognition for Robb’s artistry did not stop there; the Oregon Music Hall of Famer has also been praised by Rolling Stone, Acoustic Guitar, Down Beat, Guitar Player, Vintage Guitar, Living Blues and Oprah’s O Magazine, who noted his talents as a fingerpicker, singer, songwriter, arranger and producer.

Robb has toured the country with Buddy Guy, Steve Miller, Robin Trower and John Fahey, appeared on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” performed for crowds at Portland Trail Blazers games and collaborated with the Oregon Symphony.

Across multiple decades, during which he has released 15 acclaimed albums, Robb has shown himself to be a master of nearly every blues style and technique.

The best representation of his mastery is “Confessin’ My Dues,” a 13-track collection of original turns that draw on influences as varied as country blues to John Coltrane, ragtime to Jimi Hendrix and Americana to American Primitivism. Released in 2019 to worldwide acclaim, the album soared in the Billboard Blues Album Chart, Living Blues Radio Report, Roots Music Report Blues Album Chart and the United Kingdom’s International Blues Broadcasters Album Chart, earning Robb yet another Muddy Award for Northwest Recording of the Year and a Blues Music Award nomination from The Blues Foundation.

Robb’s work has been featured in films, television shows, documentaries and biographies, including “Game of Thrones,” “The Horse Whisperer” and “Dance of Death: The Life of John Fahey, American Guitarist.” He is associated with the American Primitive genre through his collaborations with Fahey.

Robb has performed at festivals and concert halls across the U.S., Canada and Europe. Tickets for his performance at Create Arts Center are $20 and available for purchase online at www.createarts.org/concerts. html.
