NEWPORT — The Master Gardeners are offering the class Bringing Native Plants into the Garden next week.
The class is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11 at the Create Arts Center, at 900 4th St. in Newport. Guests Kris Moberg-Hendron and Ruth Gifford are bringing their expertise on native plants.
They plan to begin the class with some basic terminology and plant structures, leading into how to identify local conifers and shrubs. They are also discussing ecoregions and keystone species, including cultivation needs and solving problems, emphasizing the “Right Plant in the Right Place,” according to a Washington State University Extension news release.
Moberg-Hendron is a WSU Extension state naturalist and Spokane County Master Gardener who encourages the use of native plants in home landscapes. Gifford, also a Spokane County Master Gardener with a passion for native plants, has a background in invasive plant species, wildlife biology, teaching and taxidermy.
The class fee is $5, or $3 for Master Gardeners, and can be paid with cash, check, money order or PayPal. To register, contact Beverly Sarles from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
