NEWPORT — The 11th Annual Newport Area Bike Rodeo is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at Sadie Halstead Middle School. Children should bring their own bicycles for this bike safety event where they receive a free helmet, bike maintenance check, safety instruction, prizes, healthy snacks and more. The bike rodeo is for grades kindergarten through sixth.
Free food distributions coming up
CUSICK — There are two free food distributions coming up, starting with the Kalispel Tribe of Indians hosting the drive-thru Mobile Market from 2nd Harvest from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4 at the Kalispel Casino. The casino is located at 189 Qlispe River Way in Cusick.
The next 2nd Harvest Mobile Market is from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Newport Rodeo Arena. Both events are free to the public and no appointment or documentation is necessary. There is enough food for approximately 250 families, or while supplies lasts.
Cutter hosting Natural Health Expo
METALINE FALLS — The Cutter Theatre is hosting the Natural Health Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19. Guests include the Camas Center, the Selkirk Health and Resource Center and more. There will also be free blood pressure and blood sugar testing.
The Cutter is located at 302 Park St. in Metaline Falls.
Library district offering ‘Scam Shield’ class
METALINE FALLS — The Pend Oreille County Library District is offering the class Senior Scam Shield: Spot and Stop Fraud twice in early September.
The first session is at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8 in Metaline Falls, the second at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10 in Ione.
This class is designed to help seniors recognize and avoid modern scams. From phone and online fraud to financial and identity theft schemes, the instructor will cover the latest tactics used by scammers and provide practical tips to stay safe. Participants will learn how to identify red flags, protect your personal information and respond confidently to suspicious situations.

Viking Faire coming up
NEWPORT — Let’s Vike It, a Viking era faire, is coming to Oldtown Rotary Park at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13. The event will host Viking age demonstrations, entertainers and vendors. There will be a history of the Norse people in the history tent, shield-making, ironworking, games, storytelling and more. The faire is family-friendly and there is no entry fee.
