Summertime

It’s a warm summer day and the ground is quite dry, The grass has turned brown and is not pleasant to the eye.

Having conversations with friends the subject of rain is discussed, If it doesn’t come soon there will nothing left but dust.

Sitting on the back porch reading a book I’ll probably never get through, I’d water the lawn but it is hot, I’ll try to find something else to do.

Looking out toward the trees, there is no wind and not a cloud in the sky, I see one of our cats stalking a bird, he is quite patient and sly.

I had almost dozed off, but then I felt a cool breeze, I noticed a few dark clouds moving in over the trees.

I next saw lightning strike and heard thunder at a distance, I thought I saw the dry grass looking toward the sky for assistance.

Just then came a deafening, echoing boom of thunder eruption, And the skies offered up a cloud burst of a pleasant disruption.

So the grass was quenched and happy for a while, The cooling wind was welcome, the summer storm made me smile.
