Spartan volleyball wins first games of season

PRIEST RIVER — The Priest River Spartan volleyball team started their season with two wins.

Tuesday, Aug. 26, the Spartans visited Bonners Ferry, winning the first set 25-22 but losing the second 21-25.

They pulled back ahead in the third set with a 2520 win and won the fourth set 25-12.

“Amazing family energy on the court,” Priest River coach Katlyn Ward says. “They won because of a positive mentality!”

Jayda Storro had 23 assists for Priest River in the win. On offense, Raygn Turner led with 17 kills. Kenadie Kingery had four blocks and Callie Stanger had 11 digs for Priest River, while Hadley Sandau led with three ace serves.

Turner had a good match. “Raygn was on fire,” Ward says. “No matter what she was set, the girl was attacking.”

Thursday, Aug. 28 the Spartans then visited Genesis Preparatory Academy. There, the Spartans won three sets in a row by 25-7, 25-5 and 25-9.

Storro continued to lead with 25 assists and eight aces. Aleigha Jensen also had eight aces.

Their third game was against St. Maries at home, Tuesday, Sept. 2 after The Miner’s weekly deadline.

The Spartans host Kellogg at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, and they play Timberlake at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6. Next week, the Spartans host Riverside at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9.
