Friends of The Library sale this Saturday

NEWPORT — The Friends of the Pend Oreille County Library District is hosting a book and yard sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 outdoors at the Districts Administration Building in the back parking lot at 109 S. Union St., Newport.

Friends President Kat Schutte said that book donations are up while revenue from their backdoor book sales are down monthly by 60– 75%. While the Friends mini-sale locations (My Sidewalk Cafe, Newport Buzz and Cut and Salesky Service Center) are helping fill the gap, they don’t they make up the difference.

“We anticipate an increasing need for the Friends to fund items that the library district is unable to include in the budget, while raising funds has become increasingly challenging,” Schutte said.

Saturday’s sale includes books, audiobooks, movies, music, clothes, a unicycle, kite and other items. A variety of craft materials will help pass the long, dark winter months.

“The Friends are passionate in their mission and are reaching out to POCLD supporters who believe in the importance and of libraries and their continued relevance,” Schutte said.

The Friends of POCLD is a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) established in 1976 that provides funding for programs, events and initiatives supporting the Pend Oreille County Library District’s mission to “connect our communities with opportunities to enrich lives through empowerment, lifelong learning, and recreation.”
