CUSICK — There are two free food distributions coming up, starting with the Kalispel Tribe of Indians hosting the drive-thru Mobile Market from 2nd Harvest from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4 at the Kalispel Casino. The casino is located at 189 Qlispe River Way in Cusick.
The next 2nd Harvest Mobile Market is from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Newport Rodeo Arena.
Both events are free to the public and no appointment or documentation is necessary. There is enough food for approximately 250 families, or while supplies lasts.
Human handler and search dog giving talk
CUSICK — A human handler and search dog are giving a talk this month on how scientists find rare or elusive animals or plants in wild places.
Wildlife biologist Collette Yee from Rogue Detection Teams in Ferry County will demonstrate their process to adopt, train and care for dogs that were abandoned at animal shelters in a Selkirk Alliance for Science presentation. Yee will also share stories that entertain and inform about the search for unusual target species.
The free Power of Science event is at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18 at the Camas Center for Community Wellness, at 1821 LeClerc Rd. N. in Cusick. All ages are welcome.
A science pocket guide will be awarded for free to one lucky attendee.
