Overconsumption talk Sept. 21

NEWPORT — An artist and executive director of Zero Waste Spokane is giving a presentation at Create Arts Center this month.

Elyse Hochstadt aims to raise public awareness on overconsumption and waste in the textile industry with her presentation, “From Passion to Action: Making Change Happen in a World of Waste.” The event is 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21 at Create, at 900 W. Fourth St. in Newport.

“Consumption is at the heart of our environmental issues,” Hochstadt said in a Create news release. “We are trained daily to buy more and feel rewarded when we find bargains, but there is a dangerous disconnect between the items and their true cost to people and planet and this is by design.”

Hochstadt’s presentation is free to attend, though donations are welcome. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., and snacks and drinks will be served.
