Youth orchestra accepting members

SANDPOINT — If you are looking for or know of a student who wants to broaden their skills and knowledge in orchestral string instruments, the Festival at Sandpoint may have a class for them.

The Festival’s Youth Strings Orchestra is accepting new members for the upcoming school year.

From September to May, the Festival partners with a local instructor to offer free practice sessions through the Youth Strings Orchestra, a program open to string players of all ages and skill levels with sessions designed to help students master their instruments and learn to play in a group setting.

Practices are held weekly Monday evenings at St. Joseph’s Church in Sandpoint from 4–5 p.m. for the beginning group and 5:15–6:15 p.m. for the continuing group.

The beginning group is designed for students with basic knowledge about their instrument and reading music, who may be new to playing in an ensemble. Meanwhile, the continuing group is designed for intermediate and advanced students looking to hone their skills and expertise through ensemble playing.

To join, attend the first practice Monday, Sept. 22 or contact the Festival at 208-265-4554 or [email protected] for more details.
