METALINE FALLS — Selkirk Elementary School is inviting parents and children up to age 4 to have fun with blocks.
The Birth to 4 event is from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24. Like other Birth to 4 events, this one is an opportunity for children to interact with others their age, as well as for parents to connect with other parents and early childhood educators in the community.
In this session, participants will engage in activities using blocks to promote cognitive and fine motor development, as well as pre-academic concepts like letter and number knowledge. Each child will take home a free educational toy from the Parents as Teachers program coordinated by the Selkirk School District and a free book compliments of North Pend Oreille County First Book.
Creative District forming team of creatives
NEWPORT — The Newport Creative District invites artists or artisans with a skill to share to join their team of Creatives in the Classroom.
The Newport Creative District is assembling a roster of artists and artisans who are willing to instruct, demonstrate or perform in a classroom setting in the Newport School District. Teachers will then choose from the roster to schedule a visiting artist to supplement their curriculum.
Creatives will receive compensation for time in the classroom, preparation and travel. Additional compensation for supplies is limited. The application is online at the Newport Creative District’s website, www.newportcreativedistrict. com.
PR Library hosting iPhone camera class
PRIEST RIVER — A professional photographer is teaching a class about how to get the most out of your iPhone camera.
Melody MacDonald will cover subjects like composition, editing and settings in the class, helping participants improve their photos.
The class is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 at Priest River Library. Participants are required to bring their iPhone with them to the class. To sign up, contact the library at 208-448-2207.
Library Friends having annual book sale
PRIEST RIVER — The Friends of the West Bonner County Library District are having a huge book sale.
The Oktober Fest Annual Book Sale is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. All proceeds will support local libraries in the West Bonner County Library District, which has branches in Priest River and Blanchard.
Star Gazing Party this Saturday
NEWPORT — Grab a telescope and join the Pend Oreille County Library District and the Sel-kirk Alliance for Science for a stargazing party 8–10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Indian Creek Community Forest. Dress for the weather and bring a chair or blanket.
