Priest River volleyball keeps win streak

PRIEST RIVER — The Priest River volleyball team kept their win streak last week after four more games.

Tuesday, Sept. 9 Priest River hosted Riverside, winning in three sets by 25-7, 25-11 and 25-10.

Jayda Storro had 12 assists, six ace serves and six kills for Priest River. She led offense alongside Kenadie Kingery with four, Raygn Turner with five and McKinley Burgess- Duquette with four kills. Hadley Sandau and Aleigha Jenson had one block each. Also on defense were Toni Marinello, Turner and Burgess-Duquette with six, three and three digs.

All varsity athletes got to play in the third set against Riverside.

“Jayda had a standout game,” Priest River coach Katlyn Ward says. “She was everywhere.”

Then the Spartans hosted Newport Thursday, Sept. 11, beating the rival Grizzlies in three sets 25-15, 25-23 and 25-10. (See separate story.)

Priest River won again Saturday, Sept. 13 when they visited Grangeville, also in three sets 25-22, 25-13 and 25-11.

On offense, Storro and Turner led with kills with six each. Turner also had two blocks, leading alongside Sandau and Burgess-Duquette with two each. Turner led in ace serves with five and Burgess-Duquette had three. Storro had 13 assists. Marinello and Turner led defense with six digs each.

They continued the season with another win against Timberlake, Monday, Sept. 15 at home. The Spartans took three sets by 25-19, 25-17 and 25-23.

Burgess-Duquette and Turner led in kills with eight each alongside Storro, who had 10 kills and 23 assists. Jenson had three blocks, Stanger had 10 digs and both Turner and Haylee Jepson-Church had two ace serves.

The Spartans ran away with the score in the first two sets, but nearly dropped the third, Ward says.

“Third set the girls were down by 7, still not giving up and won,” Ward says.

Priest River is next up against Orofino at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, then Bonners Ferry at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23. Both games are at home.
