RITZVILLE – The Newport Grizzly football team held Lind-Ritzville to 19 total yards offense Friday enroute to a 42-0 win over Lind-Ritzville Friday, Sept. 12 in the Northeast 2B North League opener.
“Our defense had another impressive night,” Newport coach Mark Duxbury says. “Dylan Aubrey had an interception for a TD in the first quarter for the first score of the game.”
That 20-yard pick six set the tone for the game. Brad Martin III and Ares Swain both had sacks for Newport as Newport’s defense smothered Lind-Ritzville.
Before the first quarter was over, Newport was up 21-0. In addition to Aubrey’s defensive touchdown, Martin capped a 53-yard scoring drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown.
Martin was back in the endzone before the quarter was out on a 36-yard TD run.
In the second quarter, Martin connected with Kutter Driver for a 33-yared touchdown pass play.
As quarterback, Martin completed five of eight passes for 133 yards, including two TD pass plays. Kutter caught one and Aidan Kramer caught another in the third quarter, a 33-yard pass play TD.
In the fourth quarter, Preston Wacenske scored on an 8-yard run. Wacenske had three carries for 14 yards and the touchdown.
Driver led Newport runners with 14 carries for 84 yards. Martin gained 59 yards and two TDs on four carries, Gavin Hunt-Estrada gained 54 yards on 10 carries and Reimers had two carries for 23 yards.
Kramer led receivers with two receptions for 55 yards and the touchdown, Kutter also caught two for 37 yards and a TD and Dylan Aubrey caught one for 41 yards.
Damian Hamburg successfully kicked all six extra points.
Newport had 226 yards rushing, 133 yards passing, for a total offense of 359 yards.
Five of the seven league team have had league games. Newport and Reardan are both 2-0 in league play and 3-0 overall. Asotin and Ritzville are tied for third and fourth with 0-1, 1-2 records. Chewelah (0-1, 0-2) is fifth. Northwest Christian hasn’t played a league game yet but is 2-0 overall. Freeman also hasn’t played a league game yet and is 1-1 overall.
