NEWPORT – Having fun isn’t hard with a library card and during this year’s Library Card Sign-Up Month the Pend Oreille County Library District (POCLD) invites the public to celebrate.
While the modern library is still stocked with books, people can explore the wide variety of other items that are now available for checkout as well. WiFi hotspots, museum passes, camping equipment, game cameras, blood pressure cuffs and more can be found at local libraries and borrowed with nothing more than a library card.
In addition to items for loan, branches within the District keep an active events calendar with programs and activities for people of all ages and interests. Past events have included survival courses, ice fishing, cider pressing, nutrition and gardening classes, and art workshops as well as library classics like story times and book clubs.
Library cards are always free to Pend Oreille County residents and property owners and can be obtained at any POCLD branch or on the Library’s website, www. pocld.org.
To celebrate, the Library District is partnering with businesses across the county to help library cards pay off in a new way. From Monday – Saturday, Sept. 22-27, Pend Oreille County residents can stop by any of the following businesses, show their library card, and receive a discount on select purchases.
• My Sidewalk Café, Newport: 10% off any purchase
• Union Street Perk, Newport: $1 off any drink 20 oz. or larger
• Mellany’s Bakery, Usk: 10% off any meal
• Last Stop Ice Cream Shop, Metaline Falls: $1 off a large cup or cone For more information about this or other library events, go to www.pocld.org, call your local branch at 800-366-3654, or email [email protected].
