Multiple 911 calls were received for a column of smoke around Scotia Road and Xanadu Ranch just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9. South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue’s policy is to respond in force to all Pend Oreille fires when they are small. “Due to a great response and some help from our friends, we able to keep this fire below two acres,” SPOFR Chief Shane Stocking said in a Facebook post. With the help of a drone and residents, the fire was pinpointed and extinguished. The fire was caused by two separate lightning strikes according to Stocking.
